
English tenor Oliver Chubb began his singing career in the Portsmouth Cathedral Boys‘ Choir and went on to study music at the University of Bristol, majoring in trumpet. In October 2022, he began studying singing at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, where he is now studying with Lothar Odinius.
As a concert soloist, he has sung for many ensembles and choirs in Germany and abroad, most recently in performances of Purcell’s „The Fairy Queen,“ Bach’s „St. John Passion,“ and the cantata „Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen“ BWV 12 with the Dresden Kreuzchor. His current concert repertoire also includes J.S. Bach’s „Christmas Oratorio,“ „Magnificat,“ the cantatas BWV 6, 12, 60, 78, 172, 184, 196, and 198, „Acis & Galatea,“ „Messiah“ (Handel), and Requiem (Mozart).
Oliver Chubb has also appeared in various operas. These include Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore (Bristol Opera), Christoph Probst in Die Weiße Rose (Staatsschauspiel Dresden, HfM Dresden) and Spoletta in Tosca (Opera in a Box). In the 2025–26 season, he will sing the role of Tomaś in the opera Krabat at the Theater Görlitz.
He has also sung in the choirs of several productions, most recently at the Landesbühnen Sachsen („Der Freischütz“ and „Der fliegende Holländer“).
In the 2025–26 season, Oliver is a tenor academician with the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin. He has also sung with many European choirs, including the Wells Cathedral Choir, the Rundfunkchor Berlin, KorMalta, AuditivVokal Dresden, and the Dresdner Kammerchor. In his free time, Oliver enjoys reading, jogging, and losing at chess.
