Rudolf Preckwinkel, born in Osnabrück, studied double bass (R. Schlegel, H.-G. Heinrichs) and singing (William Reimer) at the Hanover University of Music. Master classes with Christoph Prégardien and the Hilliard Ensemble complemented his training. Before and alongside his engagement as bass in the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin, he was and continues to be heard as a soloist in oratorios (collaborating with Christiane Klein, Thomas Hengelbrock, Henrik Schaefer, Jörg Walter, solo parts in the RKC, among others).
As a double bass player, he has toured and recorded with the James Last Orchestra and continues to be active in the field of chamber music.
Since beginning a second degree at the Berlin University of the Arts at a late stage, Rudolf Preckwinkel has been working part-time as a sound engineer with numerous other musicians (including Zsuzsa Bálint, Ekkehard Beringer, CARLI String Quartet, Andreas Felber, Mädchenchor Hannover, Artur Kaganovskiy, Attila Székely, Jörg Walter, James Wood / CD labels include: Centaur Records, Sargasso, Peppermintpark Classic’n’Jazz). He is also often in demand as a sound engineer for productions with colleagues in the RIAS Chamber Choir.
What does being part of RIAS mean to you?
Even after many years as a bassist in the RIAS Chamber Choir, I am still filled with gratitude for the high quality of our music-making together, combined with the wonderful atmosphere that usually prevails in this ensemble.
