Stephanie Petitlaurent was born in Berlin and received vocal training from Christa-Sylvia Gröschke and Karl-Heinz Jarius. She is the first prize winner of the VDMK state singing competition. Numerous solo engagements take Stephanie Petitlaurent throughout Europe; she works with renowned orchestras such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker, the Bremer Kammerphilharmonie, and the Freiburger Barockorchester. Her broad repertoire and her dedication to ensemble singing have taken her to Cologne to join Musica Fiata under the direction of Roland Wilson and to Holland, where she is a member of the Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam under the direction of Harry van der Kamp. Stephanie Petitlaurent cultivates her special love of song with recitals she has designed herself and renowned pianists such as Phillip Moll and Philip Mayers. Among other things, Mayers composed the music for a ForumKonzert project based on the 1920 silent film classic La passion de Jeanne d’Arc. Stephanie Petitlaurent co-developed this and many other ForumKonzerte, participating both as a soloist and as a member of the ensemble.

What fascinates you about singing?

The transformation of words into music. The diversity (early music, modern music, a cappella singing, large orchestral music (Mahler’s 8th Symphony)). Ensemble singing: the importance of forming a vocal unity without losing oneself. Making music together, the different approaches to achieving the same goal.
