Stefan Drexlmeier

Nomen est omen: Stefan Drexlmeier, born in 1981, is from Lower Bavaria. After receiving a groundbreaking basic musical education with the Regensburger Domspatzen and private studies with Hans Jung, Peter Wetzler, and Sami Kustaloglu, which he continues to this day, he began freelancing at an early age: since 2001, he has been a permanent member of the Collegium Vocale Gent and has also performed in choirs such as the Bavarian Radio Choir and ensembles such as the Athesinus Consort, with whom he has given concerts worldwide. Conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Marcus Creed, and Peter Dijkstra have had a particularly strong influence on his ideas about choral sound, interpretation, and linguistic intensity. Working with directors such as Sasha Waltz and Guy Cassiers has given him valuable experience on the dance and theater stage. The self-confessed cineaste can also be heard as a choir soloist on numerous award-winning CD productions. Stefan Drexlmeier has been a permanent member of the bass section of the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin since September 2018.

What fascinates you about singing?

When harmonies fit together flawlessly in a joint performance, they unfold an immediately perceptible power. Being able to create such moments with my own body as an instrument and thus merge into the unity of the ensemble fascinates me again and again.
