Sibylla Maria Löbbert, a native of Baden-Württemberg, studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Prof. Christoph Prégardien and Prof. Arthur Janzen. Master classes and workshops with Brigitte Fassbaender, Jeanne Piland, Michael Hampe, Graham Johnson, and Elly Ameling, as well as participation in the German Lied Academy, complemented her training.
Even during her studies, she gained a wide range of experience on the opera stage, for example as Hansel at the Rococo Theater in Schwetzingen, at the Handel Festival in Halle, and at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen. However, she quickly discovered her particular passion for the concert repertoire and close musical collaboration in a song duo. In 2012, she won first prize in the Joseph Suder Society’s competition for contemporary song in Nuremberg.
Her interest in ensemble music also grew, and in 2015 she accepted an invitation to join the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin.
What fascinates you about singing?
What fascinates me about singing in the RIAS Kammerchor is the variety of challenges: doing justice to a wide range of styles, engaging with a wide variety of musical traditions, singing in languages that may be completely new to me, and always keeping an eye on the tonal unity with my colleagues—this task is always new and will certainly never become routine!
