Fabienne Weiß

Soprano Fabienne Weiß (née Keppler) was born in Preetz. She studied opera singing at the University of Music, Drama, and Media in Hanover and worked intensively with Prof. Snezana Stamenkovic (Mannheim). She has been a permanent member of the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin since 2015. Fabienne Weiß received important artistic inspiration from Prof. Christiane Iven, Deborah Polaski, Prof. Aribert Reimann, Prof. Jan Philip Schulze, and Justus Zeyen. Previous engagements have taken Fabienne Weiß to the Theater für Niedersachsen, the Theater Bielefeld, and various summer festivals, such as the International Opera Academy at Weikersheim Castle, where she performed as a lyric soprano. In 2020, at the beginning of the Corona pandemic, she founded the Alato Trio together with mezzo-soprano Franziska Markowitsch and Basel guitarist Phileas Baun. Together, the three musicians developed a repertoire specially arranged for this unusual combination of instruments, which focuses primarily on duets for two female voices from the German Romantic period. Fabienne Weiß performs throughout Germany with her trio and as a concert soloist.

What fascinates you about singing?

We humans are complex individuals with a cornucopia of emotions. Music is able to give these feelings a language. When singing, this happens through your own body, which makes it a very immediate experience. When you sing, both your body and soul are involved and active. Everything is in flux and interconnected. In the best case, singers are able to extract their feelings and convey them to the audience. This has tremendous power, which I find fascinating.
