Sir Roger Norrington was born in Oxford and studied conducting under Adrian Boult at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London. Apart from the Schütz Choir, he also founded his own orchestra, the London Classical Players, who made a great contribution to the performance of orchestral music on authentic instruments. Having successfully conducted operas at many prestigious venues, this versatile artist has for some time now been working more closely together with traditional ensembles such as the London Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, Berliner Philharmoniker, and above all Camerata Salzburg and Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, whose principal conductor he has been since the late 1990s. Over the years, Sir Roger Norrington has collected numerous awards and honorary titles.
