Ton Koopman from the Netherlands has been one of the leading pioneers of the authentic performance of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music for more than three decades. The organist, harpsichordist and founding director of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra has performed in all the major centres of music across the globe. His many CD productions include a prize-winning recording of all Bach’s cantatas. In addition, over the past few years he has dedicated himself to working with famous orchestras representing the ‘traditional camp’ such as Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Ton Koopman has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Utrecht in recognition of his research activity.
