Bruno Weil

Bruno Weil has emerged as one of the world’s leading conductors of Viennese classical music through guest appearances with world-class orchestras and numerous CD productions. Having attended a master class by Hans Swarowsky (as one of his last pupils) and won the top honours at several international competitions, he went to Augsburg to become Germany’s youngest general music director. Up to the end of 2001 he occupied the same post in Duisburg. He has conducted at all major European opera houses and is in constant demand at renowned festivals in Europe and beyond. With the Canadian-based Tafelmusik and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment he has produced a large number of CDs which won great critical claim and set new standards. In 1997 Bruno Weil received the German "Echo Klassik" award as "Conductor of the Year".

As founder and artistic director of the "Klang & Raum" festival at Kloster Irsee (Allgäu, Bavaria) Bruno Weil established a popular international forum for period-instrument concerts in 1993. Since October 2001 he has been professor of conducting at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. He has been artistic director of the Cappella Coloniensis since 2003.
