Paul McCreesh, founder and artistic director of the Gabrieli Consort and Players, was quick to make his mark as one of Britain’s most innovative conductors. He has appeared in the world’s foremost concert halls with this ensemble and acquired an international reputation through his exclusive contract with the Deutsche Grammophon label.
Paul McCreesh has performed in Europe and the United States, conducting the WDR-Sinfonieorchester Köln, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra among other bodies of players, but also in Perth, where he directed concerts of the Australian Youth Orchestra. In addition, Paul McCreesh is the founder and artistic director of Brinkburn Music, a festival unique in its kind which was launched in 1994. The numerous recordings made by the Gabrieli Consort and Players, most of them featuring compositions by Bach, Monteverdi, Purcell and Schütz as well as numerous works by Handel, have won international prizes such as Gramophone Awards, ABC Record of the Year, Diapason d'Or de l'Année or Deutscher Schallplattenpreis.
