Kaspars Putnins


Graduated from the Latvian Academy Of Music (1991) Kaspars Putnins attended a special course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London in 1995. In 1986 he formed the "Balsis" youth choir - the winner of number of Latvian and international choral contests (The choir won the BBC Silver Rose Bowl in 1991).

Kaspar Putnins has worked as the Artistic Director of the Riga Vocal Group - a highly professional company of six singers performing early, contemporary music and jazz, as the conductor with the Latvian Academy Of Music Choir, as a producer and conductor of the Festival "Meetings In Music" and as the Artistic Director of the international choir "Kor I Nord" (The Choir In North) - a company of young professionals from all the Baltic and Nordic countries. He also worked as a guest conductor with the choirs and orchestras in Latvia as well as abroad and as a lecturer at national and international choral workshops and seminars.
 
Since 1992 Kaspars Putnins is 2nd conductor of the Latvian Radio Choir. In 1994 the Latvian Radio Chamber Singers (the part of the Radio Choir) was formed by him. A large number of recording and concert programmes have been set up: as the series of early music, the series of contemporary music for choir a capella including works by K. Penderezky, A. Pärt, J. Tavener, G.Scelsi, L.Berio and many others. Many Latvian composers as Peteris Vasks, Maija Einfelde, Arturs Maskats, Andris Dzenitis have collaborated with him.

Various CD's with Kaspars Putnins conducting the Latvian Radio Choir have been already published. The latest, with works of the Latvian composer Peteris Vasks, was published with the label BIS and got excellent reviews.

For the year 1998 Kaspars Putnins has been awarded to Latvian Music Grand Prix, which is the highest recognition for musicians in Latvia, in year 2000 he received the Latvian Council of Ministers Award for Achievements in Culture and Science.

In June 2001 Kaspars Putnins conducted the Flemish Radio Choir giving four concerts in Belgium. The Programme was called Russian Experience. In 2002 Kaspars Putnins has been announced as artistic director of the Eurochoir. In July 2002 he has been working and performing with the choir in Belgium with huge success. In 2003 Kaspars Putnins has performed Rachmaninovs Vesper in 6 concerts with the Flemish Radio Choir.
