David Stern

Born in New York, David Stern is regarded as one of the most versatile musicians in his chosen specialty. He has gained considerable prestige in America, Europa and Asia through his innovative programme design, which often transcends the boundaries of the mainstream concert repertoire.

Currently, he is principal guest conductor of the Opéra de Rouen and in constant demand at the most important festivals and concert halls of the musical world: Vienna, Amsterdam, Reims, Edinburgh, Beijing, Paris, Brussels, Athens and New York.

As an orchestral conductor David Stern has worked recently with the Gürzenich Orchester in Cologne, the Orchestre de Paris, the Israel Chamber Orchestra and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Since 1999 he has also directed various orchestras in the People’s Republic of China.

The past five years have seen the development of a highly productive partnership with Concerto Köln involving performances in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Current plans are for a programme featuring German romantic works that will take him and the ensemble across Europe and America next year, with New York’s Carnegie Hall marking a special highlight of the tour.
